I was afraid to look at it, afraid I'd see written there in black and white what I'd been living the last several years. Though my son is doing MUCH better, I am still afraid the pain and bad memories are too close for me to read this book. But one day, I'd like to and I guess I will have to leave myself a note or put it on a list so I can read it later.anniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10640313956929464854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5335087494258260106.post-42271716747274351232008-07-12T18:58:00.000-04:002008-07-12T18:58:00.000-04:00Seeing as how I got a call today from my son in ja...Seeing as how I got a call today from my son in jail (for drunk and disorderly) maybe I'll take this one to the beach with me. Argh. It's a disease and has to be treated as such. My heart goes out to families struggling to help and love through the heartache.

Great book selections Beth. I'll have to look into all three. :c)Jaynehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14057094040409159429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5335087494258260106.post-24403491133361412422008-07-11T18:12:00.000-04:002008-07-11T18:12:00.000-04:00I read Beautiful Boy to help me with some of what ...I read Beautiful Boy to help me with some of what I am going through with my son (not as bad as what the author went through but bad enough). I got a lot of insight and it helped me stabilize myself a little bit and realize some things that I needed to understand. One thing I learned in the book is that 10% of the population carries the gene to become addicted. We make our children wear bike helmets, but 10% of children aren't in bike accidents--why do some people condone drinking and pot in their teenagers when it is ever so much more risky than other things that we protect them from. Just because the kid isn't driving doesn't eliminate the risk of addiction. Why would anyone take that risk?Bethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02604780070187163751noreply@blogger.com
